Welcome

The Organizing Committee welcomes you to XIX National Meeting on Medicinal Chemistry to be held in Verona, Italy during the period 14-18 September, 2008, organized under the auspices of the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry (EFMC). This year, the annual Meeting of Medicinal Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society will take place at the GlaxoSmithKline R&D Auditorium in Verona, thus highlighting the importance of the collaboration between industry and academia and the common aim towards scientific objectives. The meeting will undoubtedly represent an opportunity to discuss the most recent developments in the  processes of drug discovery, and to establish new links and collaborations.
Following the Opening Lecture, given by the Nobel Laureate Richard R. Ernst (ETH, Zurich), the scientific program features 7 Plenary (PL) and 21 Main Lectures (ML) in the seven half-day topic sessions which will highlight important areas of Medicinal Chemistry. In addition, 16 free short communications (SC) and 3 poster sessions will cover a larger number of further topics.

The meeting will represent also an excellent opportunity for exhibitors to present their activities and services and to establish or extend contacts with the scientific community. A sponsors’ exhibition will form an integral part of the meeting and will be located near the Auditorium.

Verona, home of architects, sculptors and painters, is second only to Venice as the most important and alluring city in Veneto, and one of the most charming in Italy. Its historic center, full of art and life, is a gem which reflects the Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance periods. The noble palaces with their romantic balconies, the squares with their roaring fountains, the old churches, the multicoloured market, the Roman arena and the legendary love story of Romeo and Juliet help make Verona a unique Italian meeting point of different European cultures. With its culture and art, the city will form an exciting frame for a stimulating scientific and human interactions.
We would like to thank, on behalf of all the organizers, the sponsors, exhibitors, media partners, institutions and all the ones that with their support have made possible this meeting. A particular thank to the speakers and poster presenters for their scientific contributions and to all of you for the large participation that has been particularly rewarding.
